Awards Season give us a masterclass in evening wear

Hurray! The Awards season officially kicked off last Sunday with the Golden Globes. Unlike other major awards ceremonies in the international TV and movie industries, the Golden Globes always had a relaxed vibe. It was the public event, or rather the red carpet leading to the awards ceremony, that Rosie Huntington-Witeley and Jason Statham chose to officially announce their engagement. One could even say that there’s a greater focus on the red carpet and pre-red carpet gigs than on the awards ceremony itself… I mean who forgot about this mesmerizing behind the scenes picture from Eva Green? You got it. Style is everything at the Golden Globes.

Successful actors and actresses are expected to wear their best outfits as a token for their achievements for the year. It was no surprise that amongst the “Best Dressed” of the night the two JLo/Law stole the show in bold coloured gowns channelling Spring Summer 16 catwalks trends. Jennifer Lopez wowed the crowds in a stunning yellow thigh split dress by Giambattista Valli Couture, immaculately accessoried with a diamond necklace and matching shoes and clutch. Jennifer Lawrence, in Dior, also stayed truthful to red, her winning colour, with a cut out evening dress teamed up with flawless make up and hair and a dazzling diamond neckless.  L’Oreal icon Helen Miren stole the show in her demure black evening gown which hugged her toned figure to perfection.   Awards ceremonies and the Golden Globes are an endless source of inspiration for stylists and designers and teach everyone a lesson or two in evening wear. If you look closer the secret of a successful black tie outfit is quite simple:

Tip#1: pick a dress that flatters your body shape  I would not advise the same dress on an athletic and a pear shape clients. Knowing and embracing your body shape is step number one to successful styling. The dress code for my 2015 New Year’s Eve party was black tie and I picked this gorgeous red peplum evening gown from Goddiva at Little Black Dress. The fabric was framing my body and the peplum detail of the dress was enhancing my curves and my hourglass body shape.  Tip#2: enhance (with measure) what God gave you As an hourglass I have boobs, a small waist, hips and a bum, in a nutshell I have curves. I’ve picked a dress with deep see through cleavage covered in diamanté to inspire glamour rather than going for a provocative sexy look.

Tip#3: have fun! Beauty comes from within! If you look at JLo and JLaw, Helen Miren, Zendaya and Rosie Hintington-Whiteley they have one thing in common: they’re glowing! They’re literally exuding joy and youthfulness. In essence: your smile and self confidence are your best accessory.
