Lockdown has been a pain but one thing we have learnt to do is adapt to our new “normal”. A lot of activities in our day-to-day changed, from shopping with face coverings (and the affects its had to our skin), disinfecting everything that comes into contact with us, to meetings from our living room. Through these changes good things still emerged from it, one of them being a great deal of new fashionable trends.
At the beginning of the pandemic we were all thinking what does dressing for work but staying at home actually look like? Well, this perfect storm formed the new casual chic styling trend. An aesthetic that is achieved by taking your usual office attire but levelling it to your own comfort level, this way you are still giving a polished look while feeling relaxed.
Here are some of my top outfits that’ll not only have you zoom-ready but ready for life post-Covid, dressed to impress!
From my SS21 Trends you would know how the stunning cutout theme stormed this season’s runway. To get that hot causal chic look, grab your favourite cutout top to achieve a bold yet flirty feel to your outfit. KHAITE’S Talie ribbed bodysuit is a perfect purchase to achieve this look.
Another one of my favourite pieces is the Frankie shop ‘Eva’ tank top. As seen on the hottest celebs it’s a must-have! The boxy t-shirt that resembles old Hollywood muscle tees is a great way to embody the Casual Chic aesthetic! The shoulder paddings give a fierce silhouette while the sleeveless cut gives a relaxed feel. Also this can be worn freely with your desired bottoms or tucked. I’ll recommend tucked as this gives a cleaner look, and once you look in that mirror you’ll know this piece is far from ‘basic’.
For bottoms, reach for comfortable cashmere pieces that you’ll find in the current Haute Activewear trend. Pair with any of the chic tops listed and you’ll be showing up very stylish, minimalistic and most importantly comfortable!
Whether you’re WFH or running important errands, to complete your look (depending on the weather of course) you can reach for a fitted jacket. The one I recommend is Balmain’s double-breasted piece. This showstopper has the ability to take your outfit from one level to another!
Finally a little pro tip – to completely execute the new casual chic look, apply your concealer to hide your previous Netflix binges, some liquid highlighter and a striking lipstick for a soft glow. Then find the best lighting for your computer, with a clean background and your ready for any occasions!
